Visions of Bosch: Sneak preview 28 Sept. 2013

Hieronymus Bosch, born Jeroen Anthonissen van Aken (c. 1450 - August 9, 1516) was an Early Netherlandish (Dutch) painter of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Many of his works depict sin and human moral failings. Bosch used images of demons, half-human animals and machines to evoke fear and confusion to portray the evil of man. His works contain complex, highly original, imaginative, and dense use of symbolic figures and iconography, some of which was obscure even in his own time. (From Wikipedia)

The concept of this exhibition is unique in that after the artworks have been displayed, they are collected together in small groups by the curators and then dispersed randomly (for free) throughout the city in a method resembling the distribution of hand-delivered newspapers. The project was conceived in Berlin, Germany (2006) by Aisha Ronniger who delivered the artworks to the public - hence, the Papergirl reference.

Shozo Shimamato (1928 - 2013) was a co-founder of the Japanese avant garde art group - Gutai. He is regarded as one of the most daring and independent experimentalists of the international art scene during the 1950's and continued to explore/expand art boundaries until his death. I'm humbled to contribute an artwork to a memorial honoring Shozo and his influence on contemporary art. The Shimamoto Art Lab will exhibit and archive the artworks in honor of Shozo's inspiration.
