Kaunas Biennial Art Exhibition
George Maciunas and Beyond: Fluxus Never Stops
Kaunas, Lithuania

Exhibition Calendar: October 19 - 30, 2011

Gary A. Bibb has 2 artworks included in the exhibition: "Box of Crayons" and "Three Knots".

This exhibit is part of the USA government's culture week in Lithuania and celebrates the artist George Maciunas (1931 - 1978) a Lithuanian native who emigrated to the United States and was instrumental in formulating the Fluxus art concept in the early 1960's. The theme traces the influence of Fluxus art on contemporary artists in 2011.

The events of the biennial are created ... "by changing the structure, the conditions of participation, the character of exhibitions, the conception, also by involving [new] partners, curators, artists and people working in different areas of culture for a common purpose: communication through the expression of art and creative processes."

The artworks "Three Knots" along with "Box of Crayons"
by Gary A. Bibb are featured in the exhibition.

When Fluxus originated roughly 50 years ago, George Maciunas brought together a wide variety of artists working outside the boundaries of what was considered art at the time. From found objects to postcards, film, publications and performance scores; the Fluxus Never Stops exhibition was organized by Keith Buchholz and presents artwork created by a group of international artists who have (re)interpreted the idea of Fluxus.

After the Chicago exhibition, Fluxus Never Stops will travel to Lithuania and be featured at the Kaunas Art Biennial, October 2011.

Public Art #4 (Installed Variation 4) is a collaborative effort by Gary A. Bibb and Jane Hsiaoching Wang which was part of the global art exhibition: Chain Letter. The exhibition was featured at 11 major international cities and concurrently on view from July 16 - August 25, 2011. (However, the Boston exhibit at the Samson Projects Gallery was limited to a one day presentation on July 16, 2011.)

The conceptual basis of the Chain Letter art project mimics communication today
and the way in which information is shared. Invited artists in turn invited 10 additional artists they personally admire to participate in the exhibit. The outcome is a testament to the power of connectivity within society during the early 21st century.
